Viva Viva Palestina – Union Terrace Gardens - Nov 18th

Another amazing protest in Aberdeen in solidarity with the people of Gaza and Palestine. Even as we protested Israel continued its war crimes in Gaza, bombing two UN schools where thousands of Palestinians were taking refuge, with further loss of life.

On top of this a humanitarian catastrophe is taking place in front of the eyes of the world, with the denial by Israel of water, food, fuel and medicines which is creating enormous suffering for the Gazan people. Yet still the West fails to support a ceasefire, green lighting Israel’s collective punishment of Gazan civilians. Over 11,000 have now been massacred including almost 5,000 children.

Speakers spoke passionately to condemn Israel and Western governments and to highlight the suffering of the Palestinians, as they demanded a ceasefire and an end to the genocide. We had three inspiring young people speaking today, Yusef, Ayah and Dua, as well as Mercedes Villalba MSP, who brought support from Scottish Labour. Jonathan Russell spoke from CND whilst Jonathan Christie performed a powerful song/rap specially written for Gaza. Dr Ibrahim, himself from Gaza, spoke movingly about the impact on ordinary civilians and the double standards of the west, and Ramzi Hussein issued a call to action on BDS. The rally was chaired once again by Kate from SPSC Aberdeen.

SPSC and our partner organisations will continue to hold our weekly protests until the world wakes up and ends Israel’s impunity and holds them to account.
